INSPIRATIONS!

Many people and things have inspired me in my life to get to where I am, and I just wanted to give a quick shout out to:

My Mom (aka: MomBo): For as long as I can remember my Mom has been donating to charities.  It may 09321not have been thousands or even hundreds, but even when times were tough, my Mom made it a priority to always lend a helping hand to those who were less fortunate than we were.  She always reminded my sister and I just how lucky we were.  My Mom practices random acts of kindness daily, and she has always been and continues to be an inspiration to me!

My Grandma (aka: Gram Cracker): My Grandma Lois was one of the most kind, genereous and loving people I knew.  She had a heart so full of love and compassion for others, and I think I inherited my big heart from her!  She had seven grankids, and they were always her top priority.  She constantly told us how much she loved us and how much we meant to her.  She passed away in 2002 at only 76 years young,  but I know she is supporting me and filling me with love from up above.

My Husband (aka: My Matty): My husband, Matt, was made from all thehoneymoon-1861 good stuff in the world!  (Seriously!)He practices acts of kindness every day, several times a day, without even knowing it.  That’s how “good” he is!  He is continuously supportive and a great role model of everyday kindness and goodness.

Oprah:  Need I say more?  The Queen of Good Deeds and all things amazing! When I grow up, I want to be just like her!  Oprah Winfrey is not only an inspiration, she’s a teacher. Which oprahsa-772854leads me to…

“A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose”By Eckhart Tolle By shining the spotlight on this book, Oprah did something amazing.  Not only did she recognize the immense power and knowledge that this book contained by putting it on her book list, she thought it was so important for the world to hear the message in “A New Earth”, that she held free online classes for 10 weeks that discussed “A New Earth” in detail, chapter by chapter.  Oprah along with Eckert Tolle (the author) awakened millions around the world each week by discussing the eckhart-tolle-oprahimportant teachings of this book. Reading “A New Earth”, helped to awaken me to the world that we live in and lead me to my “a-ha” moment of creating 365 Days of Goodness. (You can download the podcasts of this exciting 10 week course for FREE at the itunes store or at oprah.com)

CNN Heroes :  On Thanksgiving, I stumbled across Anderson Cooper hosting an awards show of some sort. It looked interesting, but as I was busy with family, etc. I tivoed it to watch it at a later time.   When I finally got a chance to watch the show a week or so later, I felt incredibly inspired.  More inspired than I had in a long time!  It was so amazing to see ordinary people, untitled making an extrodianry impact on our world.  These people weren’t wealthy or famous, they just had the simple idea to help others.  That’s it.  It opened my eyes to the fact that one person really can make a difference! The fact that these ordinary people did just that, inspired me to my very core.

Extreme Makeover Home Edition: Without fail, everytime I watch this show, I am in tears.  The stories of the different families who are faced with so much hardship breaks my heart.  It is so wonderful that there is a show like this, that has the budget to really help these people,  to really give them hope for the future and to really make a difference in these people’s lives.  It is such a beautiful thing!  What inspires me most about this show, are the ordinary people who always come out to volunteer their time  and their skills to help build the homes for these people (usually strangers) in their communities.

And of course, My Wonderful Family and Friends (aka: My World): I would not be the person I am today without any and all of you.  I thank you all  from the bottom of my heart for always surrounding me with your love and support!  You all make me feel warm and fuzzy!

In Memory of Eunice Kennedy Shriver, 1921 – 2009 One Woman’s Vision

Eunice Kennedy Shriver founded the Special Olympics and, on July 20, 1968, the first Special Olympic Games were held at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois.

The Special Olympics was created out of Ms. Shriver’s love and respect for the individual nature of people with intellectual disabilities and her desire to see that they reach their full potential without changing who they inherently are. The bonus, as Ms. Shriver saw it, is that we all change for the better as we allow people with intellectual disabilities grow into all they are meant to be.

In a statement from the Special Olympics on her death, Timothy Shriver says “… it was her unconditional love for the athletes of Special Olympics that so fulfilled her life.”

Her son goes on to say that his mother “…never hoped that people with intellectual disabilities should be somehow changed into something they were not. Rather, she fought throughout her life to ensure that they would be allowed to reach their full potential so that we might in turn be changed by them, forced to recognize our own false assumptions and their inherent gifts.”

To that end, as we learn from the video, the Special Olympics provides individuals with consistent opportunities to realize their potential, develop physical fitness, and establish self confidence thereby enriching both individual lives and communities as a whole.

So it is that Eunice Kennedy Shriver dedicated her life to her “special friends” and through her lifelong tireless efforts created a world stage on which they can inspire us all by improving themselves and improving the world.
