A WAY TO BE RESOURCEFUL
August 18, 2009
So I think this is my last post about the “goodness” that can be done when one moves…I’m sure you all have enough tid bits and tips about ways to do “good” if you ever have to move … but I’m gonna squeeze in one more act of goodness before this moving is a thing of the past…
So again, while cleaning stuff out, I came across an unusually large amount of pens (I’m talking like 500 pens) and if you can believe it, they all worked! Well clearly, Matt and I don’t need that many pens, so I wanted to find a place where they would go to good use. I didn’t have to think too long before I thought about the deli where I work. That place goes through pens like water! Did you know the word on the street is that restaurants in general go thru more pens than your typical office? (That’s because alot of patrons at restaurants are in the bad habit of signing for their check and then pocketing the pen!) SO, I brought my overabundance of pens to the deli, and they were just thrilled. It seems that my pen timing was perfect, as they were in dire need. I know it seems silly…pens right? But I couldn’t bare throwing them away… I hate to waste! And, you never know…what’s your trash could be someone else’s treasure!

I am a “thrower-outer” by nature. So, frequently I find things no longer worthwhile for me, but someone could use it. So I put a bin labelled “FREE STUFF” out in the run-in shed where I sell my eggs. Anything from books to livestock supplies, tools, etc that I no longer use and don’t think I could sell for a price worth my time, gets put in the bin. Things disappear regularly as people come to pick up eggs. I figure it’s my version of recycling.
