SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED…

May 14, 2009

I’m yours!  I love that Stevie Wonder song, don’t you?  Well, it popped into my head today after doing a simple act of kindness.

As I was walking into my building earlier, I saw a FedEx delivery man enter right before me.  I watched him knock at my neighbor’s door although no one was answering.  As he was about to walk away with my neighbor’s package, I asked if I could sign for her.  I know how frustrating it is when you keep missing your package and FedEx only seems to drop things off that require a signature when you’re not there!  He was a little hesitant at first, but once I told him that I knew her and she would be fine with it, he let me sign for it.

The truth of the matter is, although I do live in a small 13 unit building where the apartments all face each other in a courtyard-like setting, I don’t know many of my neighbors.  Not well at least.  But I do know that if FedEx keeps missing you (today was their 2nd attempt to drop off the package) they leave the package at a retrieval center where you have to go and pick it up.  I’ve had to pick up my own FedEx packages there before, and it is not particularly close by.  I left my neighbor a note, letting her know what I had signed for her package, and then left it by her door.

When I got home later this evening, there was a “Thank You” note at my door, letting me know what a big help it was to sign for her package today.  Yay!

Although a lot of my good deeds or acts of kindness have been on the “smaller” side lately, they have really been things that have “come up” in my everyday life.  Sometimes we need a reminder that there are things we can do on a daily basis if we just keep our eyes and ears open!
